"It is a great honor and privilege to share my wonderful birthing experience with you and to tell you all about what my absolutely amazing doula, Adrienne, did for me and what she can and will do for you.  I was pregnant with my first child in 2005 at the age of 26.  At the time I was living with my mother who was working full time and I myself had just started my internal medicine internship in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. To make matters more stressful, my fiance was overseas in Africa.  I was nervous and scared, but my prayers were answered in the form of Adrienne.  From the minute I asked if she would be my doula, my uncertaitny about the birthing experience melted away.

 

Adrienne helped me focus on the beauty of the birthing experience.  From the start her focus was clear- to make sure I had the very best possible birthing experience.  She made sure this happened by understanding my wishes so that she would be able to communicate my needs and desires even if I was not able to.  She helped me prepare the ambience that would usher my child into the world, making sure the lighting and music was just right.  And then on the actual day, she was right there by my side through it all.  As I was in labor, she helped focus my breathing with helpful techniques and when it was time to push she was right there beside me to give me all the encouragement I needed.  On september 12, 2005 I gave birth to a beautiful bay girl and Adrienne was instrumental in her wonderful delivery.  Her strengths on that day included her unwavering support, ability to stay calm and collected, her gentle spirit, and preparation that allowed her to anticipate what I needed at each and every turn of the delivery.  I am blessed to have had her by my side on that day and you will be too if you choose her to be by your side."
